Dental sealants for cavity prevention

Dental sealants are used to fill and protect the narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned through brushing alone. In some cases, the tooth structure contains fine grooves or pits that accumulate plaque, not because a person does not brush properly, but because the grooves are too narrow for even a toothbrush bristle to reach. Over time, these areas can develop cavities. To help prevent tooth decay, the dentist applies a protective coating that seals the grooves and pits, making it easier to remove plaque and maintain healthy teeth.
